New Scouts Crossed OverWelcome new scouts! The crossover, first-ever for all we know held at Camp Acton, was a great success. The bridge was well built under the leadership of Lucas Herrera. Patrol meals were outstanding, including Tacos & Burritos. Kudos to the Junior Assistant Scoutmaster Ben and helper Freddy McWilliams for flipping burgers and dogs for the adults and new scouts. It was good to camp out and thank you to all the adult leaders who came to provide a warm welcome to our new scout families.
After crossing a very solid rope bridge, the scouts enjoyed some games under the direction of Troop Guide Tommy Dohoney with assistance from several scouts. Senior Patrol Leader Henry did a great job organizing the patrols, cooking, tents, and cleanup. I think we will all admit that we are a bit rusty as we have not camped since last October. We could use some help with our campfire program and dutch oven desserts, but generally well done and I always applaud and support the attempts at cooking and entertaining. At Tuesday night’s meeting, we practiced flag folding and did some more planning for the court of honor this Saturday, May 15, 2021. (3:30 to 5:00 pm). Then we marched over to the Concord Independent Battery (CIB) where they were practicing their gun drills. We learned a bit of the history about these historical guns used only in celebratory fashion. Who knows, maybe a scout will volunteer to join the CIB someday in the future. We held a Patrol Leader Council meeting Monday which was focused on planning for the upcoming meetings. Thanks to Cameron for stepping up as scribe and Elliott as a historian. We do need a Quartermaster. We do need to plan for the 2021-2022 school year and now with things opening, we can plan a semi-normal year. Some scout parents during our Troop Committee Meeting offered some suggestions such as surfing, sea kayaking/bath maritime museum, “urban camping (islands)”, canoe camping, rafting ..more Cape Cod, Ramblewild, and treetop adventures. It will be a fun and exciting year for sure. May 18 Meeting: Bring your bike (and helmet) so we can do a bike check and we plan on biking to ice cream in two different groups. At our May 25 meeting, we will be planning the bike trip meals/cooking, tents, and such. Meanwhile:
