Good luck to the scouts biking the C&O Canal in Washington DC this week. They will end up biking about 190 miles and check their first picture.

Summer camp was hot, mostly dry, full of learning new things, meeting new scouts and earning advancements. A special shout out to my son Will, who came as an adult to help the troop for the entire week. Also, thanks to Mr, Coffey, Mr. Spague, Mr. Howard and Mr. Leaonard who came to help provide coverage for the Troop and provide transport to Wah Tuk Ah camp. Also thanks to Nick Higgins, Logan, and JJ who also helped the Troop. Will, Nick, and Logan are three adults who have aged out of scouts and still found the time to come to camp and assist the Troop. JJ was working at camp and he spend much of his off time with the Troop. As an FYI for the future, working at camp is a great summer job.
All the boys learned something new, even if its just manners while eating in tables of 10 (to share and pass plates and clean up when done). Some learned about horses, cooking, camping, auto mechanics (I had my oil and filter changed), art, rifle, shotgun, archery, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, wilderness survival, climbing, and etc., just to name a few. I know the boys worked hard and sometimes had homework to do in the evenings. There was not much downtime and when there was, we had a fire and some good skits. The camp scored a 98 and 100 for camp inspection, one of our best ever scores. We came in 5th in the McGee cup and everyone turned in their best efforts for this rousing relay. Message to Scouts Summer is a great time to get those missing one or two pesky rank requirements out of the way. Work out a plan with your parents and get it done. Bring your book to the Tuesday meetings (Emerson Field) and talk to a Patrol Leader, ASPL, SPL, Assistant Scoutmaster or Scoutmaster. Let’s get those done this summer. Summer schedule at Emerson Field (near basketball courts). Arrive by 7 and depart 8:30 (later in the summer this will change to 8 pm as the days grow shorter). Storer Summer camp is going well. The weather has been great, the scouts are engaging in all of the various activities, Troop spirit is high and the scouts are making a lot of progress on skills, ranks, and merit badges. The Troop recently earned a 98% for the camp inspection. We will provide more details next week.
Please remember to attend the Eagle Court of Honor this Sunday at 3:30 PM at the Sout House. If you are in town, please join us for this celebration. We are off to Storer Summer Camp. Please keep an eye on our Troop Facebook page for any summer camp updates.
