Congratulations scouts on the many accomplishments described at last week's Court of Honor. The senior scouts did a wonderful job running the meeting and Logan as MC was at this best. The scouts who described their merit badges did great putting depth to the requirements. Congratulations to the David Whitney 2018 recipients, Alex Cancio and Will Duggan. Congratulations to Luke & Nick for outstanding Loyalty; Ben and Freddy for being Helpful and Lucian for being Cheerful.
On Monday night, the Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) met and did some preparation for Boston Harbor Island trip and they did some planning for next school year. We have two benches that arrived and we promised two families that we would build them as a troop and they would be placed at the Great Meadows. Contact me if you would like to help. Nick Higgins is leading this effort which will be this weekend. Eagle projects will be forthcoming and standby to help as needed. Someday you might be asking and this is what we do in our troop, help each other. I am looking forward to summer camp and helping our scouts along the journey. This Tuesday is our last Court of Honor for the school year and our last troop and family event for the year. Please come, celebrate, and support the scouts who have worked and earned merit badges and ranks. This is a boy led, boy focused event and you will be listening to our scouts talk about earning their merit badges. Scouts, this is a regular troop event and please remember to be in class A uniform. Two patrols have the honor of setting up and cleaning up for the event. Parents, please plan on attending and siblings, extended family, and friends are always welcomed.
We have the Boston Harbor Island trip coming up and will need to do planning at our next meeting (June 19). There is a Patrol Leader Council Meeting on Monday night (June 11) with the focus of being on the 2018-2019 yearly planning and spending some time to ensure that Boston Harbor Island trip can be as much boy-led as possible. Congratulations to our newest Eagle Scout, Will Duggan. He passed his District Board of Review on Monday, June 4. Unlike other ranks, Eagle requires a board of review and project review from a group of scouters in the district. This is not an easy event, but a rigorous examination of the scout and alignment with the aims and goals of scouting. Will's persistence and commitment to scouting has helped him along this path. If you want to achieve a goal, stick with it and put the time into it. You will see the rewards, but sometimes the results may not be evident as a formal rank advancement, but more in the person you become as a result of participating and being active member of scouting. It's not about checking boxes, but about commitment to the troop, serving others, and learning to make ethical choices. The values are in the Scout Oath and Law. This is the aim of scouting and our troop. I see this in many, if not all of the scouts who I have had the pleasure of working with in our troop. Keep the Oath and Law and you will be a good scout. Other scouts will be needing help with projects and service to others in the next few weeks. Hopefully you can help out when called on because that is what we do in our troop. I am looking forward to summer camp and helping our scouts along the journey. |
