Greetings Scouts,
Congratulations to Noah, Cameron, Lucien, and Tommy for earning Paul Bunyan Award. They are part of a few that know what a Pulaski is and how to use it. They did this and cleared trails and cut wood into sections and split it. Well done! Well done Mt. Washington scouts and scouters under crew chief and SPL Lucas. They ascended Mt. Washington safely in challenging conditions, the first assent in five (5) years. We as a troop don’t take this trip lightly. This is well prepared and planned; and the trip is always reviewed for readiness. This was Mr. Cancio’s seventh (7) trip. He knows where he is going, know who he is going with and what is needed to stay safe. He pays attention to the crew, conditions and risks and respects limitations. He is also prepared to change his plans and overcome any bravado to make it to the top, He reviews the changing conditions of the weather and crew. He stops, assesses and if needed changes. This is being prepare and thus reducing risks. Well done all and special thanks to Mr. Cancio. Sea Base Update Sea Base scouts met Monday night and got an idea of what a Sea Base week looks like. Once on board you have to work together to plan and make meals, clean up, ensure the ship is safe, get underway, navigate safely and anchor for the night and visit several of the neighboring islands. Using the adage, Ship, Shipmate and Self, in that order to conduct our mission. First ship, keep the goal of Sea Base and our ship and safety number 1; then think about your shipmates and take care of them and their wellbeing; then think about what you need. This is just plain good sense that can be applied in so many ways. The Sea Base crew needs to learn more about sailing, navigating and living aboard and we will have more prep meetings and outings planned. Well done Jonah for organizing the Cyber Chip meeting and break out sessions. Remember you need to watch the videos, understand our electronic policy and then turn in an Digital Technology Policy Contract to earn Cyber Chip. This is not an option and a yearly activity. This weekend is Turkey Truck / Drive. If you can’t give a turkey, you can still support our cause. Remember shipmate from above? We are all shipmates here on planet earth and this is one way we can “do our good turn daily”. Please support our drive in any way you can. Henry has an Eagle project proposal approved by council. Well done. Go Henry! He is requested help over the next couple of weekends; we will all work under Henry’s leadership and please support him when called upon. New Scout Corner You all continue to do well learning more skills. Most have now earned Scout rank, Cyber Chip, Totin’ Chip and need more work for Firem’n Chip. Building a fire is not easy. I’m attaching a hand out on how to build a fire. Study and practice in your yard but ask your parents permission. A shout out to Mr. Rzepczynski who helped with the new scouts and of course, mentoring the Life Scouts to Eagle Scouts! This Sunday is our Turkey Drive. Do your good turn daily and contribute a turkey, cash, time or all the above. Families are in need and we can help. Do your good turn daily! YiS, Mr. Duggan, Scoutmaster
