Positions of Responsibility

BASIC INFORMATION & REQUIREMENTS
A requirement for advancement to the ranks of Star, Life & Eagle is to serve actively
in one or more of the following positions of responsibility. At least 4 months are
required for Star, and 6 months are required for Life & Eagle. Scouts may volunteer, be elected
or be appointed by the Scoutmaster to a position. Scouts may also volunteer or be appointed
to these positions at any time between the Troop Elections. You should download and review the
"Leadership Card" below that describes the duties and requirements of that position. You will
be issued your official "Leadership Blue Card" when you recieve your position training.
Once a Scout has completed the requirements of this position, he must provide
documentation to the Leadership Coordinator. Scouts may turn the "Card" in before
the full 6 months, for partial credit.
Scouts must complete leadership training while in these positions to receive credit.

- Senior Patrol Leader - SPL
- Elected by the Scouts to represent them as the top junior leader in the
Troop. He runs all Troop meetings, events and activities. He leads the Patrol Leader's Council and, in consultation with the
Scoutmaster, assigns specific responsibilities as needed.

- Assistant Senior Patrol Leader - ASPL
- Appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader with the approval of the Scoutmaster,
Fills in for the SPL in his absence. He also is responsible for training
and giving direction to other junior leaders in the Troop.

- Junior Assistant Scoutmaster - JASM
- Serves in the capacity of an Assistant Scoutmaster. He must be at least
16 years old and an Eagle Scout. He is appointed by the Scoutmaster.

- Patrol Leader - PL
- The elected leader of his Patrol. He provides leadership to the members
of his Patrol and represents them on the Patrol Leader's Council.

- Bugler
- Performs the duties of bugler as directed by the Scoutmaster.

- Den Chief
- Historian
- Keeps a historical record or scrapbook of Troop activities. He collects and maintains
Troop memorabilia and information on former Troop members.

- Instructor
- Teaches one or more Scouting skills to Troop members.
- Cooking, First Aid, Knots & Lashings, Fire Building, Camping

- Librarian
- Maintains a library of Troop-owned publications. He checks out merit badge books to Scouts
on request and assures their return or replacement.

- Order of the Arrow Troop Representative - OATR
- Quartermaster - Troop
- Responsible for Troop equipment and sees that it is in good working
order. He works with the Patrol Quartermasters on campouts. He maintains inventories
He is also responsible for loading and unloading the Troop truck for campouts.

- Quartermaster - Patrol
- Responsible for Patrol equipment and sees that it is in good working
order. He maintains the Patrol Box and tents on campouts and inspects them on their return.
He works with the Troop Quartermasters. He is also responsible for loading and unloading the Troop truck for campouts.

- Scribe
- Serves as the Troop secretary and maintains the attendance records at
Troop Meetings, Campouts, Courts of Honor and Patrol Leader's Council.
He is responsible for overseeing the publication of the Troop newsletter.

- Troop Guide
- Advisor and guide to the new Scouts. He helps new Scouts advance to First Class
in their first year. Works with the Assistant Scoutmaster assigned to
the new Scouts.

- Assistant Patrol Leader
- Appointed by the Patrol Leader and leads the Patrol in his absence.
